How to publish a Roblox game and make it public
From File → Publish to a released game: the current Studio and Creator Hub steps, the age and content requirements, and a game page that gets clicks.

Publishing a Roblox game has two stages that people often mix up. First you publish the place to Roblox — it gets a page and is saved online, but only you can play it. Then you release it to players, which involves a content questionnaire and an age check. Roblox reworked this flow in 2026; this guide follows the current steps.
Stage 1: Publish the place to Roblox
- 1
Open File → Publish
In Studio, open your place and choose
File → Publish. The first time, a Game details window opens. - 2
Fill in the game details
Add a name, a genre (and optional subgenre) and a description, plus an icon and thumbnail if you have them. Write the description for players: what they do in the first minute, not your feature list. Press Save.
- 3
Keep publishing as you work
After the first time,
File → Publishsaves your latest version online. Every publish is kept in version history, so you can roll back if an update breaks something. To add a second place to the same game (a lobby and a level, say), useFile → Publish Asand add it as a new place.
At this point the game exists but is visible only to you, people you gave edit access and allowed group roles. This is the right state for building game passes and testing data saving, which only work in published places.
Before you release: test with real people
- Early testers.
File → Invite early testerslets you invite up to 10 friends. They see a preview watermark. - Test on a phone. Most Roblox players are on mobile. Open your game in the Roblox app and check that buttons fit and text is readable.
- Test with several players. Use Studio's Server & Clients test mode, or a live server with friends. Bugs that only show with two players are the most common.
Stage 2: Release the game to players
- 1
Start the release
In Studio choose
File → Publishagain and press Continue at the release step. The content maturity questionnaire starts. - 2
Answer the content questions honestly
The first question asks whether the game has age-restricted content.
- Answer No and the game is released with a “Content May Vary” label to age-checked players 16 and older.
- Answer Yes and you fill in the full questionnaire. Depending on the answers, the game goes to age-checked 16+ players or ID-verified 18+ players.
- 3
Pass the age check
To release a game, your account needs an age check — facial age estimation or a government ID. Roblox asks for it during the flow if you haven't done it yet.
Releasing to all ages
Making a game available to players under 16 has extra requirements on top of the above: two-step verification, the full questionnaire with a Minimal, Mild or Moderate rating, passing Roblox's evaluation, and either an active Roblox paid membership for two months in a row or a refundable Robux fee. The details change often — read Roblox's publishing page before you start.
Choosing who can play
After release, audience settings live on the Creator Hub: open your game, then Publish settings → Manage Audience → Manage access. There you can keep it friends-only, open it to everyone allowed by age and region, or exclude it from recommendations while you test.
Make the game page work for you
- Icon: square, made at 512×512. It is shown as small as 150×150, so use one clear subject and bold colors, not text.
- Thumbnails: 16:9, ideally 1920×1080, up to 10 images or videos. The first one does most of the work — show the most exciting moment of gameplay.
- Name: say what the game is (“Lava Run Tycoon”), not an inside joke.
- Updates: publish small updates regularly and say what changed in the description. Players and recommendations both notice.
