Roblox Assistant vs Rateblox: when is the free AI enough?
What Roblox's built-in Assistant does, where it's the better choice, and when a paid Studio agent saves you time.
Updated October 23, 20265 min read
Roblox Assistant is the AI built into Roblox Studio. It is free to use, made by Roblox, and gets better with every Studio release. Rateblox is a paid AI agent that also builds in Studio. So the honest question is: when is the free one enough, and when is a paid agent worth it? We make Rateblox, so we'll be specific about where Assistant is the better choice.
What Roblox Assistant does
- Writes and edits scripts and objects in your place, and inserts Creator Store assets.
- Planning Mode: it writes an editable plan and builds nothing until you press Build.
- Takes screenshots of the viewport, and has a playtesting agent in beta.
- Generates textured meshes from text or an image (
/generate_mesh), procedural models, materials and textures. - Lets you use your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google API key, and can act as an MCP server for apps like Claude and Cursor.
- Code Assist adds inline code completions in the Script Editor.
Roblox doesn't publish a price for Assistant. It is free to use with daily usage limits that Roblox doesn't list; creators on the DevForum regularly ask for higher ones.

Which one to use
Assistant is the better choice when…
- You want to try AI in Studio without paying anything.
- You mostly need help with single scripts, fixes and explanations.
- You need generated meshes, materials or textures.
- You already pay for an AI API and want to bring your own key.
A paid agent like Rateblox is worth it when…
- You want a whole game built, not single features — and want to see and edit the full plan first.
- You keep hitting Assistant's daily limits during long build sessions.
- You want every step tested in Play automatically, so errors are caught before the next feature.
- You want to work from Claude or ChatGPT in the browser — Studio's own MCP server only works with apps on the same computer.
Other options
Assistant and Rateblox are not the only choices. Lemonade, Ropilot, Superbullet and RoCode all work with Studio in different ways — see our comparison of AI tools for Roblox Studio, or Lemonade alternatives if you're switching from Lemonade.
FAQ
Is Roblox Assistant free?
Yes, it is free to use inside Roblox Studio, with daily usage limits that Roblox does not publish. You can also connect your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google API key, which your provider bills.
Can Roblox Assistant make a whole game?
It can plan and build features, including from a Planning Mode plan, but like every AI tool it works best one feature at a time with you testing in Play. It does not turn one prompt into a finished game.
Can I use Roblox Assistant and Rateblox together?
Yes. They don't conflict. Many creators use Assistant for quick questions and mesh generation and an agent for longer builds.
